BMR Motorsports was formed in the 1970′s by former dirt track driver Gary Marchant. Gary raced at the famed County Line Raceway in Elm City, NC as well as Chantilly Speedway, Clary’s Speedway, Fayetteville Speedway, and Concord Speedway. Gary ended his racing career when his son Burney Marchant began racing. Gary now spends his time working on racecars all week and is at the racetrack with Grandson Garrett or at County Line Raceway with Mike Jones on the weekend.
Burney began his racing career at the age of 14. He would run dirt for a few years until he began racing at Southern National Raceway Park at age 19. Burney would race Super Stocks and Late Models on tracks such as, Southern National, Coastal Plains Raceway, East Carolina Motor Speedway, Dillon Motor Speedway, and Florence Speedway. Burney’s accomplishments include: a 3rd place finish in Late Model points at East Carolina in 07, Rookie of the Year in 2000 in Limited Late Model at Coastal Plains Raceway (He also finished 4th in points), and one career win at Wayne County Speedway. Burney is not fully retired though, he crew chiefs for Garrett Marchant and Mike Jones and is the owner of BMR Motorsports. He looks to maybe run a select schedule sometime in the near future once Garrett’s career takes off!
The torch has now been passed to two drivers, those drivers are: Garrett Marchant and Mike Jones. Garrett began his racing career in 2010 at the age of 13. He raced at Coastal Plains Raceway and East Carolina Motor Speedway in the Goodyear Young Gun Series. Marchant brought home 9 top 10′s in 10 races. He finished second in his first race, and won in his fourth race. Garrett made the move to the NASCAR Whelen All American Budweiser Pure Stock Series at South Boston Speedway and Orange County Speedway. Garrett brought home 4 top 10′s in 11 races with a best finish of 4th respectively. Garrett also ran one Late Model race at Orange County Speedway he started 13th and finished 10th. Marchant’s future plans are unknown. All we do know is that he will be driving something.
